TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING

for Damaging Winds and Heavy Rain.

For people in the Maranoa and Warrego district.

Issued at 4:50 am on Sunday 29 January 2012

Synoptic Situation:

At 4am EST, a deep low was located over the western reaches of the Warrego

region and was moving steadily south towards the New South Wales border. The low

is expected to move into New South Wales by around midday today.

Rain areas are expected over the warning area, with some locally heavy falls

that could lead to flash flooding and significant creek and river rises.  Local

falls in excess of 50mm are possible before midday, and locally damaging wind

gusts of up to 100km/hr.  These conditions are expected to ease by around midday

Sunday.  Locations which may be affected include Charleville, Roma, Mitchell and

St George.

Showers and rain areas are persisting over the western parts of the Darling

Downs, though there is no radar or rain gauge evidence of very heavy falls in

the region.  The warning for the western parts of the Darling Downs region is

therefore CANCELLED.
