WARNING

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Heavy Rain
for people in the eastern Roper-McArthur and eastern Barkly Districts.
Issued at 10:40 am CST Friday 27 January 2012

Synoptic Situation:
At 9:30 am CST a Tropical Low [994 hPa] was located near latitude 17.5S,
longitude 137.6E, approximately 50 km southwest of Wollogorang, moving southeast
at 18 km/h. The low is expected to move into northwestern Queensland this
afternoon.

Heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding is expected over the eastern
Roper-McArthur and eastern Barkly Districts today. Heavy rain is expected to
ease later today as the low moves into Queensland. A Flood Threat Advice for the
Roper-McArthur District is also current.

Damaging wind gusts, abnormally high tides and large waves are no longer
expected.

In the 24 hours to 9am this morning, 287 mm of rain has fallen at Mallapunyah
and 220 mm at Baileys Grave in the Roper-McArthur District.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that driving conditions may be
hazardous - avoid flooded roads and watercourses.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:00 pm Friday.
